Job Overview
Join Birmingham City Council’s dynamic Applications Support Team as an experienced Senior Application Support Engineer. You’ll lead expert support for various software applications, including NEC Revenues & Benefits and Civica Collect, while collaborating with functional, development, delivery, and security teams to implement and support both new and existing solutions.
The ideal candidate should be a user-centric, highly motivated individual with extensive experience in providing expert technical support and guidance to internal teams. They must also possess strong collaboration skills to work systematically with stakeholders and ensure optimal implementation, performance, and support for diverse solutions in a fast-paced environment.
About the Role
As a Senior Application Support Engineer, you will take ownership of the current application portfolio across:
- Revenues & Benefits
- Finance
- Legal
- Democratic services
In this role:
- You will implement, support, and oversee applications while collaborating with suppliers, business teams, schedulers, and database teams.
- Your work will focus on advanced solutions to deliver solutions aligned with evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership:
- Provide expert guidance on application support for NEC Revenues & Benefits and related third-party solutions.
- Implement and maintain seamless operations across multiple business areas, ensuring correct system configuration based on business requirements.

Stakeholder Relationships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with peers, internal teams, and external suppliers.

Dedicated Support:
- Lead front-end system administration for Revenues & Benefits service support and third-party solutions.
- Troubleshoot, analyse, and optimise software application performance.

Production & Workflow:
- Develop, prioritise, and deliver work plans, organising a multi-faceted application support service amid a customer-facing environment.

Collaboration & Adaptability:
- Operate efficiently on your own initiative, guiding both technical and operational aspects of complex software ecosystems.
About You
Experience & Expertise
- Comprehensive hands-on experience supporting front-end Revenues & Benefits systems, including third-party hosted solutions (preferably NEC) and supporting service operations.
- Implementational expertise: Ability to review, refine, and configure software applications according to business priorities.
- (Optional preference, but not mandatory): Familiarity with Civica Collect systems a bonus.
