Senior Applied Data Scientist – an Unconventional Role
We’re looking for a Senior Applied Data Scientist who expects more from their career.
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional professional to distil complex problems into meaningful, actionable insights. You’ll leverage our world-first science, cutting-edge machine learning techniques, and human creativity to deliver impactful solutions for our clients.
As part of our advanced data science team, your responsibility will include:
- The ongoing implementation, support, and development of complex models and applications
- Working alongside exceptionally talented colleagues, challenging and rewriting existing rules rather than following them
Collaboration with Tesco
Our team works closely with Tesco, tackling some of the most interesting and challenging problems in category management. You’ll collaborate with our client leadership team and across our clients to:
- Build reusable, scalable solutions that deliver measurable value
- Drive change, shape innovative solutions, and redefine how organizations harness data
- Ensure technical expertise aligns with customer impact

Key Responsibilities
- Transforming complex problems into actionable insights using a blend of science and creativity
- Exploring advanced data science techniques within our world-first Customer Data Science framework
- Developing effective data models as well as supporting and enhancing existing ones
- Driving technical workstreams, setting direction, stakeholder alignment, and initiating groundbreaking solutions
- Engaging with both technical and non-technical colleagues to distill insights from data and translate them into value-driven decisions
What We Expect From You
Staying competitive in a knowledge-driven world means continuously nurturing your skills. The technologies we work with are at the leading edge of data analytics, statistical modeling and customer intelligence, so the ideal Senior Applied Data Scientist should have:
- A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field
- Strong programming skills with Python and SQL as essentials; optional benefit is PySpark experience
- Experience with version control tools (e.g. GIT)
- A solid understanding of analytical technologies, tools, and techniques
- Excellent logical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Exceptional communication skills, including translating complex concepts for non-technical audiences
- Proven experience in statistical modeling and applying data science solutions to real-world client problems
- A passion for connecting technical work with real customer outcomes to ensure clear and measurable impact
- The confidence to build new workstreams from the ground up, defining direction, structure, stakeholder alignment
- Experience in retail analytics or exposure to Category Management is highly advantageous
