We’re seeking Scientists with a passion for solving problems using cutting-edge AI and machine learning to join our applied research team.
About TR Labs

TR Labs is the AI Research & Development arm of Thomas Reuters, driving innovation in Legal, Tax & Accounting, Risk, and News Media through state-of-the-art AI and product innovation. Specializing in AI/ML, we focus on high-impact domains, ensuring real-world solutions that address customer challenges and opportunities.
About the Role
As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will:
- Lead end-to-end AI research projects focused on Legal Intelligence, Tax Automation, or Regulatory Compliance.
- Translate business challenges into scalable technical solutions, assessing feasibility and impacts.
- Own AI capabilities delivery, mentoring scientists and influencing technical direction across teams.
- Identify novel methods for complex professional domains like medical, tax, or law—pushing boundaries at the intersection of AI and industry impact.
About You
We’re looking for candidates with:
- PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, supplemented by 5+ years of hands-on industry experience.
- 5+ years of experience building and deploying production-grade AI systems:
- NLP, ML, GenAI, or Information Retrieval (IR) in modern frameworks and techniques.
- Proven track record of leading high-impact cross-functional AI/ML projects from concept to delivery.
- Strong technical judgment and ability to evaluate and validate technical requirements.
- Exceptional communication skills to influence and drive technical strategy, plus:
- Expertise in Knowledge Graphs, LLMs, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) frameworks.
- Experience with agentic systems or hybrid (AI-tools) architectures.
- Publications or industry recognition at top-tier venues, such as ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, SIGIR, or KDD.

Compensation & Conditions
Base Pay Ranges (US Locations)
- US (competitive markets): $127,400 USD – $236,600 USD¹
- Himont locations (CA, NY): $146,800 USD – $272,600 USD
- Ontario, Canada: $100,000 CAD – $145,000 CAD
