Architect – Construction Quality Monitoring (CQM) Lead
About the Role
Mace combines construction expertise with consultancy to unlock potential in every person or project and redefine the boundaries of ambition. Our values shape the way we consult and the skills of the people we seek to join us.
We are looking for an Architect to support a significant pipeline of site quality monitoring (CQM) across our multi-disciplinary team. This role will support our offices (London, Winchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds) in delivering Construction Quality Monitoring (CQM) Lead responsibilities. The CQM Lead will deliver a quality monitoring service to:
- Monitor and report on construction works
- Identify build quality and workmanship non-compliance
- Spot health and safety hazards and risks during execution
The successful candidate will work alongside our Multi-Disciplinary Design and Building Surveying team and will have opportunities to contribute across public and private sector projects with similar quality monitoring needs.
Education Sector Focus: The role will include site quality monitoring within the Education sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide construction quality monitoring support across assigned projects.
- Review works in progress for compliance with:
- Contract requirements
- Good working practices
- Manufacturer recommendations
- Coordinate specialist consultants when needed (e.g., M&E Engineers, Fire Consultants, Façade Engineers).
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, including consulting online platforms for reports.
- Collaborate with other disciplines, site managers, and supply chain members, applying sound construction judgement.
- Understand and apply JCT forms of contract; familiarity with NEC schemes is advantageous but not essential.
- Manage workload independently, including:
- Tender design
- Supervision of small-to-medium maintenance projects (quality and compliance).
- Prepare site inspection reports, using tablet-based software for documentation.
- Obtain/renew DBS clearance and meet security clearance requirements where necessary.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
