Senior Architect - Education
Senior Architect – Higher Education Role – BDP Manchester
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior Architect to join our award-winning education team in BDP’s Manchester studio.
Currently leading the design and delivery of several innovative higher education projects, we are seeking an experienced education architect to take a senior role within our team. Your key responsabilities will include:
- Leading design development
- Acting as a key point of contact with clients
- Making a significant contribution to our growing education sector portfolio
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Architect Director leading the Manchester education team, you’ll operate within a collaborative and creative environment. Your role will focus on:
- Developing exciting new designs for education projects
- Working closely alongside clients to communicate and refine proposals
In this position, you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Lead multi-stakeholder consultations with exposure to education clients
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills
- Drive high-quality deliverables and long-term client relationships
Core Responsibilities & Qualifications
To succeed in this senior architectural role, you should be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
Technical & Professional Expertise
- Proven educational architecture experience, with a portfolio showcasing the design of inspirational buildings (e.g., universities, further/technical education, and schools)
- Experience in university estate strategies and master planning (highly desirable but not essential)
- Passion for the education sector’s potential to transform society

Design & Leadership Skills
- Strong concept design capabilities, including:
- Estates master planning
- Innovative education space design
- Design leadership across all project stages
- Exceptional visual and verbal presentation skills, particularly for:
- Strategic studies
- Early-stage design concepts
- Ability to enable effective multi-stakeholder consultations
Management & Technical Capabilities
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines, including mentoring junior staff
- Ability to coordinate designs, prioritise tasks, and align deliveries with agreed programmes
- Strong knowledge of:
- Current UK higher education trends and legislation
- (Bonus points for global higher education experience)
- Proficiency in:
- BIM tools, specifically Revit
- 3D visualisation
- Eager to explore advanced workflows and emerging industry innovations
- An ability to produce clear:
- Reports, presentations, diagrams
- Drawn deliverables
