Senior Architect / Technical Lead | Colchester | Competitive Salary
If you're looking for more than another technical delivery role, this opportunity offers the chance to become a key figure within a growing architectural practice. You'll have the autonomy to influence technical standards, improve project delivery and help shape the future of the business as it continues to expand. Rather than simply producing drawing packages, you'll be trusted to lead from the front, mentor others and bring fresh ideas to how projects are delivered. For someone who enjoys taking ownership, solving complex technical challenges and making a lasting impact, it's an opportunity to build something that's genuinely your own.
Working across residential and mixed-use developments, you'll take the lead through the technical design, tender and construction stages, ensuring projects are coordinated, compliant and delivered to the highest standards. You'll work closely with clients, consultants and contractors, managing technical information, resolving site and construction challenges and providing leadership across project teams. Beyond project delivery, you'll support and develop junior colleagues, contribute to quality assurance, refine technical processes and work alongside the directors to strengthen the practice's technical capability. Whether your background is as a Senior Architectural Technologist or a technically focused Architect, you'll be someone who combines excellent technical knowledge with strong leadership, commercial awareness and a collaborative approach.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

You'll be joining an ambitious architectural practice with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality residential and mixed-use schemes across the UK. As the practice continues to grow, there's a genuine opportunity to influence how the technical team evolves, working in an environment where ideas are welcomed, responsibility is encouraged and career progression is driven by contribution rather than hierarchy. The culture is collaborative, supportive and hands-on, making it an ideal environment for someone who wants to play a visible role in the success of both projects and the wider business. If you're ready for a position where your experience will shape not only the buildings being delivered but also the future direction of the practice, this is a rare opportunity to do exactly that.
