Senior Artist

Location: Remote Contract: Full-time, 6 months initially with a view to extension or permanency

  • We’re looking for an experienced Senior Artist with previous management experience to mentors a team of artists and drive the visual quality of our games.
  • Ideal for someone who blends exceptional artistic ability, strong creative judgement, management skills, and a passion for raising quality across an entire project.
  • As a Senior Artist, you’ll take ownership of high-impact artwork, influence the visual direction of our games, mentor other artists, and collaborate across disciplines toward engaging player experiences.

The Role

As a Senior Artist, you’ll:

  • Take responsibility for creating and directing high-quality visual assets, championing artistic excellence across the project.
  • Define visual standards, improve workflows, support external partners, and help develop the wider art team.
  • Work closely with Art, Product, Narrative, Design, and Production to ensure consistently high-quality visual experiences.

What You’ll Be Doing

Artistic Ownership

  • Own the creation of complex, high-impact visual game-ready assets.
  • Take responsibility for artistic quality of new features and seasonal content.
  • Provide art director guidance for Big Brother project (characters, backgrounds, props).
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, consistency, and artistic standards.

Art Direction & Quality

  • Produce polished artwork requiring minimal revisions.
  • Create and maintain style guides establishing clear visual standards.
  • Ensure consistency across:
    • Characters
    • Environments
    • UI
    • Promotional assets
  • Review and polish artwork before final implementation.
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail throughout production.
  • Identify and resolve visual inconsistencies pre-release.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product, Narrative, Design, QA, and Production teams.
  • Help define and evolve the visual identity of our games.
  • Clearly communicate artistic vision and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with external outsourcing partners while maintaining quality standards.
  • Solve visual challenges through collaboration and creative thinking.

Technical & Creative Expertise

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge within your artistic discipline, with a strong understanding of:
    • Character design and anatomy
    • Digital painting (Adobe)
    • Shape language
    • Colour and light theory
    • Composition
    • Mobile game art pipelines
  • Balance artistic ambition with technical limitations.
  • Ensure mobile-performance optimised artwork without compromising quality.
  • Continuously improve the player experience through art.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Manage, mentor, and support junior and mid-level artists.
  • Conduct:
    • 1:1s
    • End-of-year reviews
  • Share knowledge, techniques, and best practices team-wide.
  • Provide detailed paint-overs, feedback, and guidance to both internal and outsourced artists.
  • Help raise the visual standard of the department.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the art team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Exceptional artistic talent combined with

  • Minimum Requirements:

    • Extensive professional game art experience (commercial titles).
    • Proven mobile or live-service game asset production expertise.
    • Excellent artistic fundamentals with exceptional attention to detail.
    • Proven experience managing artists.
    • Experience creating/maintaining visual style guides.
    • Strong visual storytelling and player readability skills.
    • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Outstanding communication and feedback skills.
    • Verifiable mentorship experience for artists and creative talent.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in:
    • Narrative-driven or free-to-play mobile games.
    • Directing outsourced art teams.
    • UI/UX design.
    • Defining or evolving an art style.
    • Mobile game optimisation techniques.
    • Licensed IPs or established brand collaborations.
