Senior Aseptic Services Assistant (Band 3) – Pharmacy Aseptic Service, Great Western Hospital
Job Summary
The Pharmacy Aseptic Service at Great Western Hospital is expanding with the establishment of a new onsite aseptic unit for preparing injectable medicines such as chemotherapy and monoclonal antibodies. We are seeking applications for a full-time Band 3 Senior Aseptic Services Assistant who will:
- Support the Specialist Aseptic Services Technician within a multidisciplinary team
- Work alongside Senior Technicians, Pharmacists, and Assistants to ensure safe, high-quality injectable medications for our patients
- Handle ordering, dispensing, and aseptic preparation of medicines, including sterile chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, and parenteral nutrition in our new clean room facilities
Due to UKVI sponsorship guidelines, this role cannot sponsor candidates for a skilled worker visa. However, applications from UK-right-to-work holders (or those with alternative visa routes) will be considered alongside all others.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Core Role
The successful applicant will:
- Support the day-to-day operations of PASU (Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit) in partnership with pharmacists and technicians
- Assure pharmacy standards through handling, receiving, dispensing, aseptic preparation, drug accountability, storage, and disposal
- Adhere to GCPs (Good Clinical Practice), GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practice), and GDPs (Good Distribution Practice)

Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential)
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English (Grade C or above)
- On-the-job training provided for aseptic competencies up to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
Desirable (Additional Preference)
- Previous training in aseptic/sterile preparation (especially pharmaceuticals)
- Advanced knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice)
Experience (Essential)
- Demonstrated ability to work cohesively within a team
- Self-managing capacity to meet service demands and deadlines

Desirable
- Previous experience in hospitals (pharmacy) or aseptic manufacturing environments
- Experience with stock control and expiration dating
- Familiarity with clean room standards
Additional Requirements
Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS)
