Job purpose
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Associate or Senior Associate to join our Private Client team. This is an excellent opportunity for a STEP qualified solicitor with 5+ years PQE to take on a full-time role handling a complex and rewarding caseload involving high net worth estates.
About the Private Client Team
At Lodders, our Private Client team helps individuals and families plan for the future and manage important personal affairs. Whether supporting clients with wills, trusts, probate, tax planning, or wealth preservation, the team provides clear, practical advice tailored to each client's circumstances. Known for combining specialist expertise with a highly personal service, the team works alongside clients to provide reassurance, clarity, and long-term support through every stage of life.
Key tasks/responsibilities
- Managing a complex caseload of high-net-worth estates from instruction through to conclusion
- Advising on Agricultural and Business Property Relief (APR/BPR) and other Inheritance Tax (IHT) reliefs and exemptions
- Handling matters involving foreign assets, including resealing of foreign grants
- Preparing comprehensive IHT returns and detailed estate accounts
- Advising on post-death tax planning and restructuring strategies
- Understanding the impact of lifetime gifts on death and advising accordingly
- Dealing with settled property and aggregable assets in estate planning
- Calculating and advising on grossing up for IHT purposes
- Meeting deadlines and effectively prioritising a varied caseload
- Working both independently and collaboratively within the team
- Demonstrating exceptional legal skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues, and third parties

Knowledge, education and experience required
- Qualified Solicitor with 5+ years PQE
- Full STEP qualification
- Proven track record of managing complex private client matters
- High level of technical expertise in IHT and estate administration
- Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing priorities
