Senior Associate / Associate - Utilities

The Opportunity

At Stantec, we recognise that utilities are fundamental to every community. Without essential resources like power, water and telecommunications, building the communities of the future is impossible. That’s why we’ve built a specialist Utilities team that works alongside developers, utility providers and public sector organisations to deliver innovative infrastructure solutions that unlock development.

We’re looking for a Senior Associate / Associate – Utilities to lead our Midlands Utilities team, based in either our Birmingham or Northampton office. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our regional business, lead a talented team and work on some of the UK’s most significant regeneration and infrastructure projects, while collaborating with colleagues across our national Utilities, Sustainability and Energy teams.

Whether supporting nationally significant infrastructure, major regeneration schemes or residential developments, you’ll play a key role in helping create resilient, sustainable communities across the Midlands and beyond.

About The Role

As the Midlands Utilities Lead, you’ll provide both technical and strategic leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, working closely with clients, multidisciplinary teams and utility providers to develop innovative infrastructure solutions.

You'll Be Responsible For:

  • Leading the delivery of technical and strategic utility advice across masterplanning, feasibility studies, environmental impact assessments, procurement and project delivery.
  • Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and resources to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Leading and developing a Midlands-based team of four, while contributing to the wider UK Utilities team.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities, utility providers and contractors.
  • Identifying project risks, opportunities and infrastructure constraints; negotiating with utility providers to secure practical and sustainable solutions.
  • Supporting major regeneration, infrastructure and land development projects across the Midlands and nationally.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across Sustainability and Energy to develop innovative future energy and utility solutions.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with relevant legislation, regulations and client expectations.

Your Impact

In this leadership role, you’ll help grow and shape our Utilities business across the Midlands while delivering solutions that have a lasting impact on communities.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
