Senior Associate Director HV Cable System – Power & Energy Portfolio

Jacobs London, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Exeter, Leeds, Manchester, Belfast, Reading, Newcastle – or on-site project locations

About the Role

At Jacobs, we redefine the future by solving society’s biggest challenges. As part of our global energy transformation, we’re welcoming a Senior Associate Director (HV Cable Systems) to drive high-voltage (HV) and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cable projects across substations, transmission networks, HVDC interconnectors, and energy storage systems.

You’ll lead design, specification, and delivery of cable systems up to 400kV, bridging the gap from tendering through to project handover. This role calls for both technical depth in HV cable engineering and leadership in delivering complex, globally significant projects.

Your Impact

Your work will directly support Jacobs’ energy transition leadership, delivering sustainable infrastructure that powers a greener future. Key to this role are:

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Authority & Coordination
    • Develop HV/EHV cable system specifications, concept/detailed designs, and undergo design reviews.
    • Lead estimation, site supervision, and support where required (e.g., tendering, feasibility study support).
  • Technical Leadership
    • Provide expertise in cable systems (materials, thermal/magnetic field calculations, voltage limiting, etc.).
    • Perform technical calculations: cable rating, TMF/EMF sheath induced voltage, etc.
    • Validate drawn technical specifications, reports, and tender documentation.
  • Project & Compliance Management
    • Ensure regulatory compliance (CDM, national grid, and company standards).
    • Align designs with client requirements and subcontractor interfaces.
    • Prepare inspection/test plans, oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and verify dimension/quality integrity.
  • Safety & Risk Leadership
    • Advise on setting out methods, safety processes, and risk assessments/method statements.
    • Drive best practices in health, safety, and environmental (HSEQ) standards in collaboration with the HSEQ team.
  • Stakeholder Relations
    • Maintain strong client relationships, coordination with internal/external teams, and project accountabilities.
  • Documentation & Delivery
    • Ensure priced bills of quantities, reinforcement/cable plans, and designs meet completion and programming needs.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
