About The business unit The Buildings Unit (BLD) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

Overview Of The Role We are looking for a senior professional specialising in fire safety engineer of high technical calibre who can work both independently and within the wider delivery team. The individual must have a good working knowledge on UK and international fire codes in addition to performance-based design approaches.

Working alongside other senior fire engineers and the wider team, the role will involve: Leading the development of fire safety strategies: notably for all sectors of the built environment and road/rail infrastructure Leading and overseeing reviewing designs against codes of practice, analysing and designing solutions to bespoke fire engineering problems Working alongside other internal/external technical stakeholders to provide advice best suited to the project and the Client Specifying and interpreting fire and smoke modelling studies (we use a range of tools including the FDS and Ansys computational fluid dynamics software) Planning and supervising fire engineering design work, from concept to detailed design stages, and through construction Ensuring that our work is delivered to programme and budget, maintaining high quality Undertaking formal peer reviews of project work Developing relationships with key clients and supporting business development to drive growth Assisting with resource planning, staff training, mentoring, support Managing their own projects via the company finance when required

Candidate specification Essential: Have a qualification at degree level in a relevant engineering or science subject Be a Chartered Engineer or equivalent Must have extensive working knowledge of performance-based fire engineering to national frameworks Experience with working with fire engineering codes of practice in the UK Working knowledge of international codes such as NFPA, IBC, etc Knowledge of fire/smoke modelling tools such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), zone models and evacuation models Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and other members of the project team Must have excellent report writing skills and interpersonal/presentation skills
