Senior Associate - Intellectual Property

Department: Intellectual Property and Commercial

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: London

Reporting To: John Burns & John Buckby

Description

Our intellectual property department has an opportunity for an experienced and commercially-minded IP lawyer to join the team at Senior Associate level.

The successful candidate will be experienced at handling IP disputes and litigation, with a focus on trade marks, passing off, copyright, and designs.

They will work directly with two partners and a team of talented associates in our London and Manchester offices and will have daily exposure to high quality work from clients in the sports, fashion and brands space.

This role would appeal to an entrepreneurial and commercially-minded lawyer, who enjoys working in a down-to-earth team with a lively culture. The successful candidate will have good communication skills, an eye for detail, and a passion for solving problems for busy clients.

The candidate will be actively supported in their career development, and encouraged to participate in professional networks and take an active role in their own business development and profile-raising activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing and advising on IP disputes and litigation relating to trade marks and passing off, copyright, design rights, patents
  • Taking ownership of matters within the team’s busy workload
  • Assisting with supervising and developing junior members of the team
  • Working collaboratively in a positive, professional and inclusive working environment
  • Engaging in business development activities, inside and outside the firm.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

This role would suit an ambitious Associate or Senior Associate who has specialised in intellectual property for at least 5 years, in a fast-paced client-focused environment.

The candidate will have:

  • Strong technical and legal knowledge of IP law
  • Down-to-earth, commercial mindset
  • Strong client facing skills
  • Enthusiasm for business development and marketing
  • Passion for finding neat and creative solutions to legal issues
  • Engaging and fun personality
  • Excellent written English and communication skills
  • Good academic credentials including the Oxford University Postgraduate Diploma in Intellectual Property Law & Practice (or equivalent
  • Strong team ethic and enthusiasm for supporting and supervising junior colleagues

It is desirable (but not essential) for the successful candidate to have their own budding client base or following.
