Senior Associate – Education (Hybrid) | Stone King

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a Senior Associate to join our nationally renowned and highly regarded Education team, based in Bath or London with hybrid working (two days in-office per week). This is an outstanding career development opportunity to work with a Tier 1-ranked team and high-calibre clients, backed by outstanding rankings in Chambers and Legal 500.

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and monitor chargeable and non-chargeable hours to meet and exceed firm targets.
  • Lead and optimise complex projects using best-practice matter management, improving revenue, profit, and service delivery.
  • Supervise junior team members, delegating work appropriately to maintain quality standards.
  • Foster learning, collaboration, and high performance across the team.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, driving new business and retention.
  • Lead marketing, networking, and thought leadership initiatives to enhance firm profile.
  • Identify strategic growth opportunities, including new markets and service lines.
  • Ensure timely, clear communication—both internally and externally.
  • Maintain professional development and stay updated on legal sector developments.
  • Uphold firm standards, procedures, and core values in all client work.
  • Participate in marketing and business development events.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Drive profitability and efficiency without compromising service quality.

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience in corporate or education M&A transactions, with an interest in Education Law (especially Independent Schools sector).
  • Expertise in supervising junior colleagues (training, mentorship).
  • Proactive business development track record, with ability to:
    • Generate new revenue streams.
    • Promote the firm/experience cross-sell (e.g., via seminars, workshops, pitches/tenders).
  • Excellent organisation, technical skills, and leadership.
  • Strong communication, with skills for sensitive conversations.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Independently manage complex projects.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally.
    • Maintain financial hygiene (accurate billing, cost-awareness).

Desirable

  • Prior experience in Education or Charity Law.
