Senior Attorney – Commercial
Up to 12 Months Fixed Temporary Contract (FTC) Immediate start | Watford (hybrid – 3 days in the office)

TJX Europe is the European division of The TJX Companies, Inc., a global off-price retailer listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The division (trading as T.K Maxx and HomeSense) operates across UK, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Austria, Netherlands, and Spain, with ongoing expansion plans.
About The Role
TJX Europe is seeking a highly experienced and commercially minded lawyer to join the Commercial Team within the Legal Department in Watford (UK) as a Senior Attorney on a 6-month fixed-term contract basis.
This hands-on role involves supporting a broad range of commercial transactions and advisory work across TJX’s European business, working collaboratively within a high-performance legal team.
The Senior Attorney will:
- Partner closely with TJX’s European procurement team
- Advise colleagues across all levels, including the Senior Leadership Team
- Operate with high autonomy, quickly adapt to a fast-paced in-house environment
- Provide pragmatic, business-aligned legal advice

Reports to: Assistant Vice President of Commercial Legal (Europe)
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality legal advice on a wide range of commercial matters across TJX Europe
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts for the purchase of goods and services (not for resale), supporting all European business departments (Procurement, Loss Prevention, Facilities, Store Operations, HR, and Property)
- Advise on legal risks in a practical, solution-driven way that enhances business delivery
- Support strategic projects and initiatives, often working to tight deadlines
- Identify and manage legal risks, escalating issues as appropriate
- Address ad hoc legal issues arising during operations
- Contribute to continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, and workflows
- Provide European contract support for US-led global transactions
- Manage external counsel in the UK and European jurisdictions as required

Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer (England & Wales, or equivalent in European/Commonwealth jurisdiction)
- Significant post-qualification experience in commercial law
Required Skills
- Extensive background in commercial contracts and transactional work, preferably within retail
- Proven experience working in-house (or with substantial secondments), with a clear understanding of in-house legal functions and demands
- Technically excellent with strong drafting and negotiation skills
- Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision
- Quick enough to hit the ground running, managing a diverse workload effectively from day one
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all business levels
- Commercially pragmatic, with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Highly organised, responsive, and adept at managing multiple competing priorities
Preferred Skills
- Experience within a retail business
