Job Title: Senior Automation Engineer
Location: Remote (UK)
Salary: £50,000 - £70,000
All applicants must be SC Clearable
Why Apply?
This is a rare opportunity for a Senior Test Engineer to build a testing function from the ground up. Our client is a fast-growing intelligence business, helping large organisations understand exactly who they're doing business with. Backed by recent Series A funding, they're scaling quickly, with major projects already signed off. With no automated testing currently in place, this is a genuine chance to shape the strategy, choose the frameworks, and define the quality culture from day one.
Responsibilities
- Own the overall testing strategy across multiple products
- Build a comprehensive end-to-end test suite in Playwright, covering critical user journeys and regression scenarios
- Keep CI pipelines fast and trusted
- Introduce contract testing using Pact or similar between APIs, microservices and event-driven components
- Build realistic integration environments using Docker, LocalStack and seeded MongoDB datasets
- Test complex asynchronous workflows, including batch processing, retries, dead-letter queues, idempotency and long-running operations
- Design reusable test data and automation frameworks
- Perform exploratory testing where needed
- Work closely with engineers to lift coverage across the development lifecycle

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What's in it for me?
A small, high-trust engineering team with genuine ownership and very little bureaucracy, at a business scaling fast off the back of new funding and major signed client work. Real influence over testing direction and tooling from the outset, becoming the technical lead for quality as the team grows around you. Fully remote across the UK, with the wider team meeting up in person once a quarter.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
“It took my CV and asked me questions relevant to understanding what kind of jobs to suggest for me. Suggestions were almost perfect. Jobs were exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
