Senior Automation Engineer
Senior Engineer (Control Systems Engineer) – Biotech Manufacturing
Role Overview
We seek a Senior Engineer (Control Systems Engineer) to join a UK-based biotechnology manufacturing organization that values innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.This role offers an opportunity to design, deliver, and validate GMP-compliant automation solutions—supporting critical manufacturing processes in a regulated industry while working on large-scale projects and shaping site-wide automation strategies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Core Technical Leadership
- Lead the design, delivery, and lifecycle management of GMP-compliant control systems (PLC, SCADA, and HMI) to support manufacturing processes.
- Define system architectures and standards, ensuring traceability from user requirements to software deployment.
- Oversee automation system development, configuration, and software validation, adhering to regulatory and GMP guidelines.

Regulatory & Compliance
- Manage commissioning, qualification, and validation activities, coordinating system handovers and managing audits.
- Interface with regulators and vendors to ensure compliance with pharma/biotech standards.
Strategic Innovation
- As the Control Systems Subject Matter Expert (SME), drive automation improvement initiatives and align with digital transformation strategies.
- Manage change control processes, ensuring optimized system performance.
Role Requirements
Education & Experience
- Degree or higher-level qualification in engineering or a science discipline (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Automation Engineering).
- Proven experience in automation system design, validation, and lifecycle management within pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industries.
Technical Expertise
- Strong background in PLC (e.g., Siemens, Allen Bradley), SCADA, GMP compliance, data integrity, and validation standards.
- Familiarity with cross-functional collaboration, project management methodologies, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
