Senior Azure DevOps Platform Administrator
Hybrid – Primarily Remote with occasional travel to Kent (fully expensed)
£400–£500 per day Outside IR35
6 Month Contract
Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Azure DevOps Platform Administrator to take ownership of their Azure DevOps environment as an enterprise Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) platform.
Please note: This is not a traditional Azure Cloud Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, or CI/CD Pipeline Engineer position. The client already has dedicated resources managing cloud infrastructure, releases, and pipelines. Instead, they require someone with proven experience administering, governing, and optimising Azure DevOps as an enterprise platform.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day administration, governance, security, and continuous improvement of Azure DevOps, ensuring it supports multiple Agile delivery teams while maintaining strong governance, usability, reporting, and auditability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Administering Azure DevOps Organisations and Projects.
- Managing users, access levels, security groups, permissions, and least-privilege access.
- Configuring Azure DevOps Teams, Area Paths, Iteration Paths, sprint calendars, and team settings.
- Designing and administering Azure Boards, including inherited processes, work item types, custom fields, workflows, backlog hierarchies, and templates.
- Creating dashboards, shared queries, reporting structures, and PMO reporting.
- Managing Service Hooks, Webhooks, and Azure DevOps integrations.
- Assessing and governing Marketplace extensions.
- Producing platform standards, governance documentation, administration procedures, and runbooks.
- Supporting users through training, platform adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Candidates should have demonstrable experience with:
- Azure DevOps Organisation and Project Administration.
- Azure DevOps security, permissions, and access management.
- Azure Boards configuration and administration.
- Area Paths, Iteration Paths, Teams, and delivery structures.
- Azure DevOps inherited processes and work item customisation.
- Shared Queries, Dashboards, and reporting.
- Service Hooks, Webhooks, and Marketplace extensions.
- Platform governance, audit controls, and operational ownership.
- Supporting multiple Agile delivery teams across enterprise environments.

Highly Desirable
- Experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) programmes.
- Experience working within large enterprise or ERP delivery environments.
Important
This role is not suitable for candidates whose experience is primarily focused on:
- Azure Cloud Engineering
- Infrastructure Engineering
- DevOps Engineering
- CI/CD Pipeline Development
- Release Engineering
- YAML Pipeline Development
While experience in these areas is beneficial, the successful candidate will be someone who has personally owned and administered Azure DevOps as an enterprise platform, with the ability to explain how they have configured permissions, Boards, teams, governance, reporting, and platform standards.
