Senior Backend Engineer (Go / Java) - Exciting NEW Exclusive OchoX FDI - Remote first company
Salary circa £100k+ bonus + benefits

The Role:
This is a Senior Backend Engineer position ideal for experienced engineers who enjoy building high-performance, cloud-native systems at enterprise scale. You'll take ownership of core backend services, drive architectural decisions, and lead key projects that directly impact reliability, scalability, and customer experience. You'll work closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams while mentoring others and helping shape the future of the platform.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services in Go and Java that deliver a seamless and reliable user experience.
- Lead internal and customer-facing projects from concept through delivery, with strong ownership and high-quality execution.
- Own backend architecture, driving improvements in system design, reliability, and maintainability.
- Build high-availability, cloud-native infrastructure that scales with customer growth.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and observability to ensure fast detection and resolution of customer-impacting issues.
- Contribute to major platform initiatives including automated testing frameworks, data integration, and new feature rollouts (e.g. an adoption dashboard).
- Provide technical mentorship and promote engineering best practices across the team.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve the product holistically beyond just the backend.

Essential Criteria:
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 5+ years focused on backend development.
- Advanced proficiency in Go or Java with a deep understanding of distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (ideally GCP) and containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Solid understanding of scalability, API design, and performance tuning in distributed systems.
- Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Desirable:
- Experience with server-side JavaScript (Node.js) and event-driven architecture, including pub/sub patterns.
