Senior Backend Developer
We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong Java expertise to join a high-impact engagement building trading platform capabilities for one of the world's largest hedge funds. You'll bring deep experience in Core Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, and be ready to work in a fast-paced, high-stakes financial services environment alongside experienced engineers.
Project description
This role sits on the Order Management and Execution Management (OMS/EMS) platform for one of the largest hedge funds in the world. The client is expanding the range of asset classes supported by its trading systems, and is scaling up engineering capacity to deliver this.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with Core Java
- Solid experience building services with Spring Boot
- Practical experience with Kafka (streaming, messaging, event-driven architectures)
- Proven track record as a senior backend engineer delivering production-grade systems
- Comfortable working with modern AI-assisted development practices (e.g. Claude Code, agentic AI development)

- ReactJS experience or a full-stack profile
- Background in Financial Services (FSI), particularly trading, OMS/EMS, or capital markets
- Experience with SQL and relational data modelling
- Exposure to high-performance or low-latency systems
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain components of the OMS/EMS platform supporting the onboarding of new asset classes.
- Work embedded within one of the client's five project teams initially, to learn the trading domain, architecture, and codebase.
- Transition into a standalone team delivering asset class onboarding work in parallel with the client's other teams.
- Write high-quality, well-tested, production-grade code for systems operating in a live trading environment.
- Apply modern AI-assisted engineering practices (e.g. Claude Code, agentic development workflows) to accelerate delivery.
- Collaborate closely with client engineers, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate requirements into working software.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical design discussions, and continuous improvement of engineering practices.
