This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Developer (PHP/Golang) based in United Kingdom.
As a Senior Backend Developer (PHP/Golang), you will contribute to the design, development, and optimization of scalable backend services powering high-performance digital products. Working in a fully remote, product-focused environment, you will play a key role in modernizing existing systems, building new microservices, and ensuring reliability across high-load applications. You will collaborate with experienced engineers in a culture that values innovation, ownership, and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern technologies, influence technical decisions, and solve complex engineering challenges while supporting the growth of large-scale platforms.
Accountabilities
- Maintain, enhance, and optimize existing backend services developed in PHP and Golang.
- Design, develop, and deploy new backend services using Golang and modern software engineering practices.
- Build scalable, high-performance solutions capable of supporting high-load production environments.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and efficient backend solutions.
- Optimize database queries, caching strategies, and service performance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of system architecture and microservices infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement robust, long-term technical solutions.
- Share technical expertise and contribute to engineering best practices across the development team.

Requirements
- 6+ years of professional experience developing backend applications with PHP 7/8.
- At least 1 year of hands-on experience developing applications in Golang.
- Strong experience designing and working with microservices architectures.
- Proven experience building and maintaining high-load, scalable applications.
- Solid understanding of modern PHP frameworks and dependency injection principles.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL.
- Experience implementing caching solutions and message brokers such as RabbitMQ.
- Experience working with NoSQL databases.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm Charts, Kafka, MongoDB, AI agents, or product/iGaming environments is considered an advantage.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative approach to software development.
