🔑 About The Job
As a Senior Backend Engineer at Omaze, you are an experienced engineer who takes genuine ownership of your code, your decisions, and the outcomes they produce. Backend engineering is your specialism: you're at your best designing systems, building APIs, and making infrastructure decisions that hold up in high traffic products. You also have enough range across the stack to contribute wherever the team needs you and the pragmatism to know when to support your team. You embrace AI-assisted and agentic coding as part of how modern engineering gets done and apply it with the same judgement and rigour you bring to everything else. You believe everyone has something to contribute, value diversity and inclusion, and enjoy mentoring others to help them grow.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
- Own the design, implementation, and testing of backend systems, APIs, and infrastructure producing code that's robust, well-considered, and built to operate reliably at scale.
- Work closely with product, UX, and engineering peers from the earliest stages of a feature, shaping architecture decisions before they're hard to change.
- Architect and build reusable, well-tested components that make the platform stronger and the next feature easier to ship.
- Hold a high bar in code review giving feedback that's direct, constructive, and focused on design and long term maintainability, not just correctness.
- Take responsibility for the performance, security, integrity, and resilience of what you build; raise concerns early and follow through on them.
- Uphold and actively contribute to engineering standards and best practices, not because you're told to, but because you understand why they matter.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic coding tools as a natural part of your workflow — knowing when they add leverage, when to interrogate their output, and how to review AI-generated code with the same rigour you'd apply to anything else.
