Senior Backend Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer based in United Kingdom.

The role offers the opportunity to build the next generation of AI-powered solutions transforming the freight industry.

You will design and develop scalable backend systems where AI agents and human teams collaborate in real-world workflows.

Working in a small, highly autonomous engineering squad, you will own technical decisions from architecture to production delivery.

Your work will directly impact thousands of users worldwide by reducing manual processes and improving operational efficiency.

You will contribute to an AI-native product environment where innovation is already running in production, not just being explored.

The role combines deep engineering expertise, product thinking, and hands-on ownership in a remote-first, feedback-driven culture.

Accountabilities:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of complex technical challenges and help shape the architecture, quality, and evolution of the platform. You will work closely with a small engineering team to build reliable systems, integrate AI capabilities, and deliver impactful solutions for users worldwide.

  • Own backend problem spaces end to end, from defining technical specifications and acceptance criteria to reviewing architecture and ensuring successful delivery.
  • Build AI-powered product capabilities that automate complex workflows and transform unstructured information into actionable business processes.
  • Design reliable AI systems with structured outputs, evaluation frameworks, monitoring, confidence controls, and human review mechanisms where needed.
  • Improve engineering workflows by introducing better specifications, tooling, and processes that increase team productivity and AI leverage.
  • Develop self-service tools and internal solutions using modern backend and frontend technologies to empower teams across the organization.
  • Maintain a high-quality engineering standard through testing, observability, metrics, tracing, alerts, and disciplined code reviews.
  • Work closely with users, challenge assumptions, and apply strong product judgment to build solutions that solve real business problems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
