Senior Backend Engineer – AI-Generated Applications

About the Role

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a cutting-edge AI-focused project for one of our prominent consulting clients. This remote role (based in Europe) will involve designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI-powered backend systems with global impact.


Key Responsibilities

  • Backend API Development:

    • Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services and REST APIs in Python (preferably using FastAPI or Flask)
    • Integrate with cloud infrastructure (AWS) for serverless and distributed solutions
  • Microservices & Distributed Systems:

    • Build and optimize microservices architecture, focusing on containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
    • Implement and maintain event-driven architectures, message Queues, and streaming pipelines
  • Database & Performance:

    • Work with SQL and NoSQL databases, ensuring efficient query design and handling spatially distributed workloads
    • Implement and refine testing strategies (unit, integration, load) to ensure high reliability

  • Cloud & DevOps:

    • Deploy serverless components (AWS Lambda, SQS, Step Functions) where applicable
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally to deliver production-grade features
  • Collaboration & Communications:

    • Translate technical concerns into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders
    • Present and facilitate progress updates across time zones

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8–10+ years of production-grade backend engineering experience
  • Strong Python expertise, specializing in API development (FastAPI/Flask/CherryPy)
  • Hands-on microservices experience in Dockerized and Kubernetes-integrated environments
  • Deep knowledge of AWS (serverless, managed services) and distributed systems architecture
  • Database proficiency in SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g. DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Experience with event-driven systems, messaging queues, and real-time processing pipelines
  • Exceptional debugging, performance optimization, and system design skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Generative AI (LLMs), RAG-based systems, or AI-first application development
  • Exposure to agentic workflows or working closely with LLM-driven pipeline systems
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation)
  • Experience with distributed search technologies (e.g., Elasticsearch)
  • Proficiency in multi-regional team collaboration in fast-moving environments
