Senior Backend Engineer @ Narwhal Labs
Location: Bristol, UK Salary: £80,000 - £100,000 Role Type: Full-time
Narwhal Labs is building DeepBlue OS — autonomous revenue infrastructure that helps businesses answer every call, follow up every lead, and log every interaction across Voice, SMS, Email and WhatsApp. We're an NVIDIA Inception Program Member, a Google Partner, and a 38-person team that launched our platform in May 2026.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer to:
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs (primarily Python)
- Integrate AI and LLM-powered features into our platform
- Mentor junior developers through code review and pair programming
- Shape our system architecture and long-term technical roadmap
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering to ship high-impact features

Responsibilities
- Develop, deploy, and optimise scalable backend systems
- Design RESTful APIs and microservices
- Implement authentication and database systems (SQL/NoSQL)
- Explore and integrate AI/ML frameworks and LLM technologies
- Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Mentor engineers to foster growth within the team
Requirements
Required:
- 5+ years of backend development experience (Python, .NET/C#, PHP)
- Strong proficiency in RESTful APIs, microservices, auth, and database design (SQL/NoSQL)
- Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Proven ability to mentor developers or lead small teams
- Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks, LLMs, or data pipelines

- Extensive work with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD and DevOps practices
- Knowledge of MLOps or model deployment
- Frontend development skills (Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, React)
- Experience with distributed systems or event-driven architecture
