Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior SME Principal Engineer to lead the architecture design and development of mission-critical cloud-native applications on the Google Cloud Platform. This role demands a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and GCP capable of driving engineering excellence across multiple teams and influencing strategic technology decisions.
The ideal candidate will possess strong solution architecture capabilities, extensive experience building distributed systems, and a proven track record of delivering scalable, secure, and high-performance applications in enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Lead end-to-end solution architecture and technical design for large-scale digital platforms.
- Define engineering standards, development frameworks, coding guidelines, and architectural best practices.
- Review and approve solution designs, technical specifications, and implementation approaches.
- Drive modernization initiatives, cloud migration strategies, and platform transformation programs.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects, Product Owners, Security Teams, and Business Stakeholders.

Backend Engineering
- Design and develop highly scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
- Build robust REST APIs, GraphQL services, and event-driven microservices.
- Develop reusable frameworks, accelerators, and shared service components.
- Implement secure API design principles and enterprise integration patterns.
- Ensure system reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
Database & Data Engineering
- Design, develop, and optimize PostgreSQL database solutions.
- Perform query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and database performance optimization.
- Implement high-availability and disaster recovery strategies.
- Lead database architecture decisions and data modeling activities.
- Work closely with Data Engineering and Analytics teams.
Cloud Engineering & GCP
- Design and implement cloud-native applications using Google Cloud Platform services.
- Expertise in:
- Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
- Cloud Run
- Cloud Functions
- Cloud SQL
- Pub/Sub
- BigQuery
- Cloud Storage
- Secret Manager
- IAM Security Services
- Drive cloud adoption, governance, cost optimization, and operational excellence.
- Build highly resilient and fault-tolerant cloud architectures.
DevOps & Platform Engineering
- Establish and enhance CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment frameworks.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or equivalent tools.
- Build containerized solutions using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Ensure observability through monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting solutions.
- Improve system reliability, performance, and release velocity.

Stakeholder & Team Management
- Mentor and guide engineering teams across multiple delivery streams.
- Conduct code reviews, technical assessments, and design workshops.
- Provide technical leadership during client discussions and architecture reviews.
- Drive critical technical decisions and resolve complex production issues.
- Support business development and solutioning activities when required.
