RAC Senior Backend .Net Software Engineer
RAC are on the lookout for a Senior Backend.Net Software Engineer to lead within our Breakdown team, which is the squad behind the digital tools that help customers receive the right breakdown support when they need it most. This high-traffic, mission-critical suite of tools is used by hundreds of thousands of members each year and is central to how we deliver a best-in-class breakdown experience.
You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering our technical vision and elevating engineering standards across the RAC. As one of the most senior engineering voices in our Digital & Technology teams, you’ll drive best practice, influence architecture and design decisions, and help shape our future technology landscape.

What You’ll Do
- Act as a key technical leader in your product team, driving engineering best practice, problem-solving, and practical technical decision-making.
- Design and deliver robust backend architecture and high-quality software using.NET Core, C#, SQL, and cloud-native services in Azure.
- Contribute to technical design, future-state architecture and long-term technology strategy across the wider RAC Digital ecosystem.
- Lead engineering initiatives, improve delivery lifecycle processes, and champion automation, quality and continuous improvement.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, Kubernetes, DevOps tooling and scalable cloud patterns.
- Provide coaching and technical mentoring across squads—supporting engineers of all levels to elevate capability and standards.
- Collaborate with Product and other technical functions to shape requirements, clarify complex problems and deliver practical, customer-focused solutions.
- Own and manage technical debt, ensuring intelligent prioritisation and long-term maintainability.
- Support recruitment, onboarding and the development of engineering talent across the team.
- Bring curiosity and innovation—staying ahead of emerging technologies and identifying new opportunities to enhance our digital estate.

What You’ll Bring
- Deep experience building high quality backend systems using.NET Core, C#, APIs, SQL, and cloud technologies (preferably Azure).
- Strong understanding of event-driven architectures, microservices, containerisation (Kubernetes) and modern engineering patterns.
- Proven ability to lead technical workstreams, influence decisions and mentor others—without needing formal line management.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sense of complex or incomplete business requirements.
- Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies and best-practice software engineering.
- Self-motivated, analytical and results-driven, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
