About the Role
As a registered Biomedical Scientist, you will act as a Scientific Specialist for Haematology, forming part of a senior team responsible for delivering core and specialist blood sciences services at a named site within BCUHB.
The role is strategic, requiring you to:
- Oversee a comprehensive blood sciences service to support clinical and patient needs.
- Work under the direction of the Clinical Pathology Group (CPG) via the Blood Sciences Site Manager.
- Develop and implement service enhancements while maintaining adherence to BCUHB, UKAS, HTA, and BSQR standards.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable, though both Welsh- and English-speaking applicants are welcome.
Main Responsibilities
Service Development & Leadership
- Collaborate with the Blood Sciences Site Manager, local Senior Scientific Team, and pan-BCUHB scientific leaders to shape and implement service design initiatives.
- Champion team efficiency, policy adherence, and quality improvement through:
- Training delivery
- Workload management & prioritisation
- Quality oversight (compliance with accreditation guidelines)
- Aligns with predefined objectives, delivering targeted projects under Blood Sciences Site Manager supervision.
Team & External Liaison
- Engage with senior scientists across sites and the Pathology Governance team to ensure high standards of service delivery.
- Maintain cross-disciplinary collaboration to drive excellence in blood sciences operations.

Education
Essential Criteria
- BSc in Biomedical Science
- MSc in Biomedical Science (optional, often preferred for managerial roles)
- Specialist portfolio (demonstrating expertise in relevant fields)
- HCPC registration (current registration required)
- Proof of continuous professional development (CPD)

- Subject Matter Expertise: Current, up-to-date knowledge of haematology/blood sciences specialization.
- Wider Blood Sciences Exposure: Broad experience in general blood sciences laboratory operations.
- Clinical Engagement: Post-registration experience in laboratory settings.
- Accreditation Awareness: Understanding of quality-led lab practice (UKAS, HTA, BSQR).
Desirable Criteria
- Laboratory Leadership: History of managing labs/sections.
- Multilingual Skills: Fluency in Welsh (valued but not mandatory).
