The Role: Senior Bridge Engineer – Basingstoke
Location: Basingstoke, UK (with hybrid working options)

We’re looking for a bold, visionary Senior Bridge Engineer to lead high-impact projects across the UK & International markets. Your work will influence everything from urban rail systems to critical infrastructure, helping communities thrive.
As part of our Transportation Team, you’ll work on diverse projects, including:
- Network Rail CAFA Wessex
- Thames Water pipe bridges
- M40 Design-Build-Finance-Operate (DBFO)
- Local authority assessment and inspection projects
- A wide range of sectors: Energy, Rail, Highways, Water, Development & Defence
Key Responsibilities
Deliver High-Impact Projects
- Lead and manage bridge and structures projects, from inspection and assessment to design, construction, and maintenance.
- Ensure high-quality deliverables while meeting quality, time, and budget requirements.
Drive Innovation
- Apply cutting-edge structural analysis, design solutions, and project controls.
- Leverage digital innovations to enhance efficiency and innovation.
Effective Communication
- Present complex technical insights clearly to clients, colleagues, and stakeholders via reports, drawings, sketches, and discussions.

Lead and Mentor
- Provide technical leadership and guide the development of junior engineers and technicians.
- Champion a culture of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and mentorship.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Bridge, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered (or near Chartered/Incorporated) status with:
- ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers)
- IStructE (Institution of Structural Engineers)
- (or equivalent bodies, e.g., AIME, SEAI)
- At least [X] years of relevant experience supporting chartered status or working towards it.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in inspection, assessment, and bridge design activities.
Key Skills
- Strong project delivery experience, ensuring quality, time, and cost adherence, including:
- Effective risk and change control.
- CDM compliance.
- Environmental knowledge: Experience in highways, rail, or road infrastructure environments.
- Multi-disciplinary collaboration: Proven ability to work in teams involving civil, structural, and environmental engineers.
- Engagement with stakeholders: Experience with both national/local authorities and major construction contractors.
- Enhanced structural analysis skills: Comfortable using tools such as:
- LUSAS, MIDAS, SOFiSTiK, or Structural Bridge Design software.
- Code expertise: Proficiency in:
- Eurocodes, Network Rail Standards (e.g., DMRB, MCHW)
- AASHTO standards (beneficial)
- UK Highways standards (DMRB guidelines preferred).
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting, presentations, and stakeholder meetings.
- Commitment to health and safety within project teams.
- Leadership mindset: Willingness to inspire junior teams and provide mentorship.
