Job Title: Senior Business Analyst – Middle Office (Commodities Trading)

Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Analyst to join a global technology team supporting a fast-paced commodities trading business. This role sits within the Middle Office technology function and focuses on delivering strategic and tactical initiatives across the energy trading landscape.
You will work closely with Trading, Trade Support, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Architecture and Engineering teams to deliver technology solutions that improve trade lifecycle management, regulatory reporting, operational controls and system integrations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong commodities trading experience who enjoys working across both business and technology teams.
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Delivery
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders including Trading, Trade Support, Operations, Risk, Compliance, Product Owners and Technology teams.
- Gather, analyse and document business requirements through workshops, interviews and process analysis.
- Produce high-quality user stories, functional specifications, process flows and acceptance criteria.
- Lead functional design discussions across multiple applications and integration points.
- Support backlog management and prioritisation aligned with business objectives.
- Work closely with development teams throughout the SDLC to ensure successful delivery.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement sessions, stand-ups and retrospectives.
- Coordinate SIT/UAT testing, defect management and production validation.
- Deliver training and knowledge transfer sessions for business users.

Commodities & Middle Office Responsibilities
- Support the Gas & Power trading lifecycle across physical and derivative products.
- Work across Power, Gas, LNG and Environmental products covering trade capture, scheduling, confirmations, settlements and invoicing.
- Support exchange-traded and OTC products including futures, swaps, options and spot trading.
- Analyse nominations, scheduling and operational workflows within Energy markets.
- Support trade flows between exchanges, brokers and ETRM platforms.
- Understand Power market concepts including balancing, settlements, congestion and hourly trading.
- Support regulatory reporting initiatives including REMIT and EMIR.
- Assist with reconciliations across exchanges, brokers, counterparties and downstream systems.
- Analyse system integrations between trading platforms, ETRM systems, market data providers and reporting platforms.
- Support exchange onboarding and market connectivity initiatives.
- Understand the complete trade lifecycle including amendments, allocations, confirmations, settlements and exception management.
Strategic Responsibilities
- Contribute to technology roadmaps and strategic delivery initiatives.
- Support solution design and architecture discussions.
- Analyse data lineage, interfaces and system dependencies.
- Promote Business Analysis best practices and governance.
- Support vendor evaluations and onboarding activities where required.

Required Skills & Experience
Domain Knowledge
- Strong experience within commodities trading environments, ideally Energy (Oil, Gas, Power, LNG or Environmental Products).
- Excellent understanding of physical and derivatives trade lifecycles.
- Knowledge of exchange-traded and OTC products.
- Experience with trade operations, reconciliations, confirmations and regulatory reporting.
- Exposure to surveillance or compliance initiatives is advantageous.
Business Analysis
- Proven experience delivering complex cross-functional projects within trading environments.
- Strong requirements gathering, process modelling and documentation skills.
- Excellent stakeholder management across business and technology teams.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
- Excellent planning, prioritisation and organisational skills.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of system integrations, APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Strong SQL and data analysis skills.
- Experience using Jira, Confluence and Agile tools.
- Knowledge of data flows, reconciliation processes and operational controls.
- Exposure to cloud technologies, analytics or data platforms is beneficial.
Essential Experience
- 7+ years' Business Analysis experience within commodities trading or financial markets.
- Experience delivering global, multi-region technology projects.
- Experience working with both bespoke and vendor trading platforms.
- Degree qualified or equivalent industry experience.
Desirable Certifications
- ISEB, CBAP, IIBA or Agile certifications.
