Senior Business Controller
Building a sustainable tomorrow We have an exciting opportunity for a temporary Senior Business Controller to join our team on the BAM Infrastructure Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) West project on a 12-month contract. Based at our Huddersfield office, this role offers the chance to play a key part in a major infrastructure project. The Transpennine Route is one of the UK’s most vital transport arteries, connecting key northern cities across a 76-mile stretch between Manchester, Leeds, York, Selby and Humberside, and supporting millions of passengers every year. As part of a multi-billion-pound investment programme, the TRU will transform this busy corridor into a high-performing, reliable railway, delivering increased capacity, faster journey times and enhanced passenger experience. Making Possible Strategic Agenda Process Contribute to the BAM Group vision and plan, translate this into a vision and plan for Finance. Align key stakeholders around the Finance vision, strategy and plan and communicate it internally as well as externally. Project Analysis – Aggregate data on BAM portfolio, transforming information into portfolio optimization ideas and driving the need for fact-based decision-making in policy setting. Business Management & Support Develop the capabilities, tools, techniques and models to enable finance to influence and drive better decision making within the TRU West Alliance organization. Rationalize and improve the production of management reporting and analysis across processes, commercial policy, people and technology. Management Reporting Develop and report Project Management Information to the organization i.e. Performance, Overhead recovery levels, Cash & OWC. Ensure Management reporting activities are aligned with organisation goals and objectives across the sector Statutory Accountability - Develop and implement the foundational elements of Statutory Reporting requirements, where key controls and sign-off procedures are monitored as an integrated part of the reporting cycle. Periodic Forecast Process Drive the periodic Forecast process, which is predicting the (financial) performance of the Project against the (financial) targets and report on the achievement of Projects performance goals. This includes quarterly forecasts (QF), monthly forecasts (MF), a rolling forecast for the liquidity and responsibilities as per OP process. Project Control Determine the critical success factors, opportunities, risks and performance indicators linked with project lifecycle stages. Provide guidance and challenge in reviews. Project Reporting – Develop & evolve standard reporting suite of Project financial information to be used across the Sector Tender Stage Gate Procedure (TSGP) - Assess the strategic goals regarding business development, pipeline quality and risk-return of TRU tenders in the Tender Stage Gate Procedure. Advise on whether or not to tender, analyse risks, margins and other key controls and monitor sign-off procedures, in line with Stage Gate guidance Creating key financial and scenario-based models which support strategic business decisions. Operating Plan process Establish the OP planning cycle Ownership, management and communication of the timetable Provision of OP Project templates and supporting guidance Providing the business with information to support the OP process Active involvement in the OP process including Project / Business Unit / Sector reviews Supporting with any narrative requirements Consolidation of OP to Business Unit level reports Production and management of Project financial risk and opportunity registers Set assumptions for revenue and cost levels and deliver the Strategic plan (SP) and Operating Plan (OP). What do you bring to the role? Fully qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA) Expert in providing financial insight and support to Commercial and Operations Committed team player who thrives on collaborating across a large business Track record of building strong relationships with a variety of different stakeholders. Adept at influencing and negotiating within senior leadership teams Experienced in mentoring junior colleagues and supporting their development Highly motivated and enthusiastic, with exceptional organisational and time management skills Understanding and experience of critical finance transactional operations and underlying control points and best practice. Across full scope of P2P, R2R, O2C & Master data. Very good awareness of and ability to actively engage with specialists and communicate risk and opportunity around Tax strategy, filling, accounting, Transfer pricing, JV's, indirect and payroll taxes. Significant knowledge of Project Budgeting & Forecasting & Reporting; Risk and Opp management & cash forecasting What’s in it for you?
