Senior Business Support Manager

Senior Business Support Manager – Temporary Role (Maternity Cover) – Public Health Wales

Important Notice: THIS POST IS FIXED-TERM/SECONDMENT DUE TO MATERNITY COVER.

About the Role

The Senior Business Support Manager provides advanced operational support to the Research, Data and Digital Directorate, including the Lung Screening and Digital Health Protection Programmes.

As part of the central Business Operations leadership team, you will manage essential operational requirements, including:

  • Governance
  • Recruitment
  • Financial management
  • Communications

The role involves driving efficiency through process automation, particularly via SharePoint, while ensuring compliance and service delivery excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Governance

  • Develop and implement operational workstreams aligned with user needs.
  • Lead senior stakeholder meetings, including agenda preparation, risk and action log management, and progress tracking against delivery dates and budgets.
  • Review, prepare, and present monthly and annual reports.
  • Assess and deliver compliance and governance requirements.

Recruitment & Talent Management

  • End-to-end management of directorial recruitment in collaboration with the Senior Operations Manager.

Financial Management

  • Generate purchase orders and maintain funding records.
  • Oversight of procurement processes with full regulatory compliance.
  • Budget forecasting, expenditure monitoring, and delivery of insights for decision-making.

Project Management & Documentation

Acting as a Project Manager, ensure:

  • Accurate project documentation (plans, DPIAs, impact assessments, RAID logs, action plans, and meeting minutes).
  • Timely risk escalation and delivery of high-quality reports and audits.
  • Development of service specifications with measurable outcomes.
  • Resolution of complex stakeholder queries.

Technical & Records Management

  • Confident use of SharePoint for records management and process automation.

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Welsh is advantageous (Welsh/English speakers equally welcome).
