Group Senior Buyer

Job Function:

To be responsible for ensuring the continuous supply of materials, goods and services to ensure that Adey Group operational needs are met. Taking into account price, quality and delivery will be responsible for driving best procurement activities and give leadership to a small team for purchasing and material control.

Job Description:

  • Purchase goods, materials and services requested for production and requisitioned by internal departments for the Adey Group, in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Take day to day responsibility for the Procurement team, to train and mentor to enhance the team’s performance.
  • Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, in particular when there is a risk, give alternative options, etc to help resolve this.
  • Delivery of team briefs as and when required.
  • Assist in the continuous improvements of procurement processes to improve operational efficiency, add value and improve performance.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers, monitor market trends, and market suppliers.
  • Explore alternative sources for opportunities to reduce costs where possible without compromising on quality.
  • Assist in the negotiation of contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers.
  • Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships.
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues.
  • Prepare KPI and procurement reports for monthly review.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Relevant business/commercial Procurement and Supply qualification (CIPS preferred).
  • Proven purchasing experience gain within a Steel fabrication or Steel industry processing environment (essential).
  • Knowledge/experience of effective LEAN inventory management systems.
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills with the ability to make sound commercial decisions.
  • IT skills, including strong Excel skills
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Collaborative approach to working, and the ability to engage interest and participation of others.
