Senior Buyer
Senior Apparel Buyer – Mountain Warehouse
Department: Buying Location: London
About the Role
Mountain Warehouse is experiencing rapid growth, with an average of over 20% annual expansion, now operating as the #1 outdoor retailer in the UK. We are seeking an enthusiastic, resourceful, and hardworking Apparel Buyer who can contribute to our continued success.
The ideal candidate will have an exceptional eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships across all levels of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Budget Management
- Fully manage the department, including stock, sales, orders, and forecasting analyses.
- Personally oversee a £40 million annual budget, currently growing.
- Make data-driven recommendations based on reports, intuition, and industry experience.
Range Planning & Strategy
- Develop range plans to maximize profits while ensuring a commercially viable and competitive merchandise selection.
- Present seasonal range plans to senior management, aligning with company goals.

Procurement & Portfolio Management
- Source new products and constantly evaluate existing ones to maintain the lowest prices on the high street.
- Selection and ordering of products (A/W & S/S seasons) within the budgeted OTB (Open to Buy), with sign-off required for all orders.
- Colour planning in collaboration with the Buying Director and buyer team.
Team & Operational Leadership
- Manage a team of buyers and merchandisers to drive consistent growth and profit increases.
- Attend fit meetings with production coordinators, models, and garment technicians, contributing on fit, styling, and trims before signing off samples.
Market & Customer Insight
- Stay updated on market trends and react to changes in demand.
- Deeply understand customer needs (price, quality, availability) to drive informed decisions.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience in apparel buying for a retail chain or equivalent.
- Proven ability to fully manage the critical path for your department.
- Analytical and commercial mindset with experience in decision-making within budget constraints.
- Strong competitive awareness, ensuring Mountain Warehouse remains the best value provider in the market.
- Confidence in product selection and quantity determination based on OTB (Open To Buy).
- Strong interpersonal skills for vendor and colleague relationships, with excellent communication.
- Proficiency in Excel or comparable IT tools due to analytical nature of the role.
- Ability to stay updated on market trends and customer demand shifts.
- Exceptional time management—this role requires priority-based work in a fast-paced environment.
