Senior Software Developer (C++)

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire (Hybrid - 2 days per week)
Salary: £55,000 - £65,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits

We're working exclusively with an established technology business that develops highly specialised software and hardware solutions used by global telecommunications and networking organisations.

This is an opportunity to join a close-knit engineering team building high-performance software that solves complex technical challenges. If you enjoy working close to the hardware, solving difficult engineering problems and influencing technical direction rather than simply delivering tickets, this is well worth exploring.

The Opportunity

This is a senior engineering position where you'll take ownership of software from design through to implementation.

  • Designing and developing backend software using modern C++
  • Building new functionality from concept through to delivery
  • Working on high-performance, low-level software running on Linux
  • Contributing to architecture and technical design discussions
  • Mentoring and supporting junior software engineers
  • Improving software quality, performance, and maintainability
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and development tooling
  • Working closely with Product, QA, and Engineering to deliver robust solutions

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong commercial experience with modern C++
  • Solid object-oriented design and software engineering principles
  • Experience designing and delivering software throughout the full development lifecycle
  • Experience working within Linux environments
  • The confidence to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to mentor others

Experience in any of the following would also be beneficial:

  • Low-level systems programming
  • Networking or telecommunications
  • Hardware interaction
  • C programming
  • DPDK
  • Docker
  • Jenkins
  • CI/CD
  • AWS or Azure
  • Virtual Machines

Why Consider This Role?

This is the type of opportunity that's becoming increasingly difficult to find.

  • Rather than joining a large engineering function where responsibilities are heavily divided, you'll become part of a small, experienced team where your ideas genuinely influence the product and technical direction.
  • The business values engineers who think commercially, challenge assumptions, and enjoy solving difficult technical problems.
  • There is also a clear path towards Technical Lead or Architecture positions as you continue to grow.
