Are you an experienced Licensed Cadastral Surveyor who enjoys solving complex technical problems, sharing your expertise, and influencing the quality and integrity of New Zealand's cadastre?
This is an opportunity to apply your professional judgement at a national level, make and support complex cadastral survey decisions reliably, and build capability across our Property Rights teams.
Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) has an opportunity for a licensed Cadastral Surveyor to join our Property Rights group.
The role of the Property Rights business group includes ensuring surveys being integrated into the cadastre satisfy the regulatory standards set by the Surveyor-General. This is primarily performed by a team of Customer Regulatory Specialists across our three sites who are trained in this work, with escalation on complex matters to a group of Cadastral Surveyors. Some complex work may require approval by a Cadastral Surveyor.
As a trusted technical expert, you'll complete and advise on complex cadastral survey matters, exercising sound professional judgement and making informed decisions on the application of the Cadastral Survey Rules, and help build technical confidence across our teams. You'll drive first-time compliance, strengthen technical capability across our teams, and champion continuous improvement. You'll also shape technical guidance and education initiatives, and build strong relationships with the surveying profession, ensuring LINZ delivers high-quality regulatory outcomes and customer service.
Experience in private sector cadastral surveying is essential, particularly where you have applied the Cadastral Survey Rules in complex situations, exercised sound professional judgement on challenging cadastral matters, and developed a broad understanding of cadastral survey principles and practice.
He Pūkenga Tou - Skills & Experience
- Bachelor of Surveying or equivalent and current Licensed Cadastral Surveyor status under the Cadastral Survey Act 2002
- Practical cadastral surveying experience
- Strong working knowledge of the Cadastral Survey Rules and their practical application
- Knowledge of survey records, spatial and geodetic systems and processes and Landonline
- Sound analytical, problem-solving and professional judgement skills
- Ability to provide clear, trusted technical advice on complex matters
- Strong relationship-building skills and a customer-focused approach
- Confidence with coaching, mentoring and building capability in others

The annual full-time salary range for this role is $120,000 to $130,000, depending on skills and experience.
