Senior Capacity Building Development Officer Roles
Salary & Terms
- £30,870 per annum
- Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)
- Contract: Fixed term – 4 years (subject to funding)
1. Senior Capacity Building Development Officer (Active Communities) – x1
This senior role will strengthen community capacity, participation, and influence through:
- Place-based working
- Civic engagement
- High-quality support for voluntary, community and faith sector (VCSE) organisations
Responsibilities
Lead a small team within the Capacity Building service, directly contributing to Bury VCFA’s core services:
- Design and deliver a training and development programme for community groups/organisations
- Lead neighbourhood working via Community Connector networks
- Support community voice initiatives
- Collaborate with the VCSE sector to integrate communities’ perspectives, priorities, and lived experiences into:
- Local decision-making
- Service design
- Public service reform

2. Senior Capacity Building Development Officer (Spaces of Hope) – x1
This senior development role champions community-led development by:
- Supporting residents, organisations, and partners to unlock and expand local assets, spaces, and opportunities
- Cultivating "spaces of hope"—places, networks, and systems where communities shape their own futures
Responsibilities
- Embedded within Bury VCFA’s Capacity Building offer, strengthen social infrastructure including:
- Community organisations
- Anchor institutions
- Shared spaces
- Local networks
- Apply community wealth-building principles to:
- Retain and recirculate local resources
- Build resilience and equity
- Ensure priority of community insight, lived experience, and local assets in:
- Policy development
- Service design
- System-level change
