Main duties of the job
We are recruiting a full-time Senior Capital Project Manager to lead and support the delivery of capital projects across the Trust, ensuring they meet key objectives and support our overall strategic plans.
You will have responsibility for the design, development and delivery of complex projects across our sites, risk & financial management, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to the highest standards. From modernising healthcare facilities and ensuring compliance with NHS and statutory regulations, to driving innovation in sustainable design, this role offers both challenge and reward in equal measure.

UHS Estates Limited (UEL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Fulfil the role of Senior Capital Project Manager for several assigned projects in line with financial limits, providing project delivery for designated schemes within a dedicated portfolio, to ensure the successful completion of the project brief to time, cost and quality and in accordance with HTMs, HBNs and all other mandatory/statutory requirements.
- Assist the Principal Project Managers and other team members in the day-to-day management and administration of large/complex projects, from conception to completion of the work on site. Carry out regular accompanied planned and unaccompanied ad-hoc site inspections and check, appraise and comment to the Lead Consultant on rate of progress, standard of workmanship, compliance with specification and contractor administration. Similarly, appraise health & safety on site.
- Appoint and manage a multidisciplined team to include line managing the Project teams as well as appointing external contractors and consultants, monitoring their performance on the project.
- Maintain project cost planning and cost control procedures to ensure a clear, balanced cost framework for producing and delivering a successful design, and to ensure that the agreed budget is the maximum limit of expenditure.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Specialist works and building knowledge to Degree level
- Qualified as Architect/Chartered Surveyor/Structural Engineer/Civil Engineer/Quantity Surveyor to Masters level or equivalent
- Evidence of further structured study as a Project Manager.
- Trained in specifics such as H&S/CDM, design and project management.
- Membership of APM or equivalent.
- Substantial demonstrable experience in architecture, building or construction management, including all stages of construction projects and project management.
- Management of delegated budgets and works and fee contracts tested by competitive tender.
- Current awareness of statutory requirements, standards & regulations.
- Able to provide unsocial hours attendance; either in times of crisis, or on the Duty Estate Officer roster.
Desirable criteria
- Membership of RIBA/RICS/ICE/or equal.
- Demonstration of a broad range of awareness and training courses in the building and construction fields.
- To have managed consultant and construction contracts from design to completion.
- Experience of engaging with in-house engineering or facilities functions plus Statutory Authorities and Dept of Health.
- Demonstration of Continuing Professional Development in chosen field.
- European Computer Driving Licence.
