We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to join our team at UHS Estates Ltd (UEL).
About the Role
We are recruiting a full-time Senior Capital Project Manager to lead and support the delivery of capital projects across the Trust, ensuring they meet key objectives and support our overall strategic plans.
Key Responsibilities
You will oversee the design, development, and delivery of complex projects, managing:
- Risk & financial governance
- Timelines, budgets, and quality compliance with NHS and statutory regulations
- Modernisation of healthcare facilities, ensuring compliance while driving sustainability
- Innovation in build quality to enhance patient care

UEL is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, responsible for:
- Designing and constructing new NHS buildings
- Facilities management, including estates maintenance, equipment logistics, and soft FM services
Detailed Responsibilities
Core Project Leadership
- Fulfill the role of Senior Capital Project Manager for assigned projects, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to specification, aligned with HTMs, HBNs, and statutory requirements.
- Support Principal Project Managers in overseeing large/complex projects from conception to site completion.
- Conduct regular site inspections (planned and unaccompanied) and monitor:
- Construction progress
- Workmanship standards
- Compliance with specifications
- Contractor administration
- Oversee health & safety protocols on-site.

Team & Contractor Management
- Build and lead multidisciplinary project teams, including:
- Line managing project personnel
- Selecting, appointing, and monitoring external contractors & consultants
- Ensure financial control, maintaining transparent cost planning and budgets.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Qualifications in specialist works/building to Degree level (or equivalency).
- Professional registration as:
- Architect (RIBA)
- Chartered Surveyor (RICS)
- Structural Engineer (ICE)
- Civil Engineer (equivalent)
- Quantity Surveyor (equivalent)
- Postgraduate qualification (Masters level) in project management or related field.
- Trained in key areas:
- Health & Safety (H&S) & CDM
- Construction design & project management
- APM membership (or equivalent).
- Substantial experience in architecture, building, or construction management, covering all project stages (feasibility through completion).
- Experience managing delegated budgets and contracts (via tender processes).
- Current knowledge of statutory requirements (e.g., NHS regulations, building codes).
- Flexibility to work unsocial hours, including Duty Estate Officer rotations status.

Desirable Criteria
- Membership of:
- RIBA/ RICS/ICE
- Experience managing entire consultant/construction contracts (from design to completion).
- Experience working with:
- In-house engineering departments
- Statutory authorities
- Department of Health
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) proficiency.
