Senior Carbon Engineer - LTC
Senior Carbon Engineer - Lower Thames Crossing Project
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Carbon Engineer to join our team at BMJV (Bouygues Murphy Joint Venture) to work on delivering the UK’s longest road tunnel beneath the River Thames, the exciting Lower Thames Crossing project.
About the Role
The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects. LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.
We have a diverse programme team on LTC that reflects the communities we work in and fosters an inclusive culture by actively supporting the programme's Purpose, Principles and Cultural Pillars and growing employee networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Carbon Manager in programme wide carbon reporting, governance, and assurance activities
- Coordinate, support, and provide technical guidance to Carbon Champions across departments
- Lead the management, validation, and consolidation of carbon actuals data within CausewayOne Carbon

- Support the eTool Manager in the development, review, and coordination of LCA models using eTool
- Ensure consistency of LCA assumptions, data inputs, and outputs across projects
- Support project teams in understanding carbon performance and identifying carbon reduction opportunities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
