Senior Care Assistant (Respite and Response) - Ayrshire Hospice

[Senior Care Assistant – Respite & Response Service]

About the Role Ayrshire Hospice is looking for a compassionate and dedicated individual to join their Senior Care Assistant (Respite & Response Service) team.

This role is essential in providing high-quality palliative and end-of-life care, ensuring dignity, comfort, and support to patients and their loved ones during vulnerable moments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside an experienced care team to deliver personalised support to patients in their own homes.
  • Assist individuals managed by the Respite and Response Service, offering emotional and physical support.
  • Monitor and report changes in patient’s health and well-being to senior team members.
  • Promote holistic care, including assisting with mobility, personal care, and companionship.
  • Adhere to health and safety protocols, ensuring a clean, safe, and compassionate environment.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (palliative care nurses, doctors, social workers).
  • Provide emotionally thoughtful care when dealing with grief and trauma.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience in care settings (preferably palliative care) is advantageous but not essential—compassion, patience, and humility are key.
  • Able to identify changes in health and respond accordingly.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Willingness to travel across Ayrshire areas as required.
  • Commitment to continuous learning in end-of-life care.
  • Prioritises dignity and respect for every individual.
