At NHS SBS, we’re looking for a Senior Category Manager to lead and deliver two of our works Frameworks – Public Sector Construction Works and Decarbonisation of Estates. This role offers construction procurement professionals the opportunity to make a real, lasting impact.

We fully support flexible working, with monthly collaboration meet-ups in our Salford office and occasional travel to client sites, exhibitions, and conferences.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and support a talented team of procurement specialists, including two direct reports at different career stages.
- Develop short- and long-term construction category strategies that improve resilience, unlock value, and align with NHS business objectives.
- Provide procurement guidance to Contracting Authorities, including compliance with PCR 2015, PA23, and familiarity with JCT and NEC contract models.
- Use data and insights to spot opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and supply chain efficiency.
- Oversee a portfolio of high-value projects, influencing key procurement decisions and raising quality standards.
- Present confidently to Senior Leadership, including formal Board-level discussions.
- Collaborate with Service Directorates, Heads of Procurement, and senior NHS leaders to deliver robust national procurement support.

Your Profile
Essential Requirements:
- Strong background in public sector construction procurement, with hands-on experience of PCR 2015, PA23, and associated policies.
- Experience managing construction supply chain risks, from insolvency to geopolitical disruptions, with strong contingency planning expertise.
- Knowledge of constructive contract models such as NEC and JCT.
- Direct or supportive work with Framework Agreements – framework development and management experience.
- Experience managing and developing direct reports, fostering growth in procurement capabilities.
- A track record of leading complex, high-value construction or estates programmes with resilience to overcome obstacles.
- Strong market awareness and an eye for emerging industry trends.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, grounded in commercial awareness and practical problem-solving.
Nice to Have:
- A CIPS qualification or progression towards completing one.

Salary:
Up to £65,000 per annum, depending on experience and development needs, plus a 3% flex fund (up to £1950).
