Job Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced EC&I Engineer to support critical projects within the nuclear industry, with a particular focus on decommissioning and safety-critical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the specification, design, integration, and validation of EC&I systems across complex decommissioning projects in line with nuclear safety regulations.
This role requires deep technical expertise in safety systems (including SIL-rated systems), a strong understanding of nuclear standards and compliance, and the ability to deliver across all project phases, from concept through to commissioning and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the design and implementation of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems for nuclear decommissioning projects.
- Ensure safety-related control systems meet required SIL classifications and comply with UK nuclear regulatory frameworks (e.g., ONR, BS EN 61508, IEC 61511).
- Produce, review, and approve technical documentation including specifications, calculations, drawings, schematics, and functional design documents.
- Carry out hazard identification, HAZOP/HAZAN studies, and functional safety assessments.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior engineers within the EC&I discipline.
- Interface with project teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders to ensure design compliance and robust safety justifications.
- Support site surveys, commissioning plans, FAT/SAT procedures, and troubleshooting of installed systems.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality, project delivery, and nuclear safety culture.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
