Senior Charge Neonatal Nurse (Band 7) – Princess Royal Maternity, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde

You need to hold a live NMC UK Pin to be considered for this position.

The award-winning Neonatal Nursing team at Princess Royal Maternity invites experienced Neonatal Nurses to apply for a Band 7 position. We provide a friendly and progressive neonatal service featuring:

  • Level 3 intensive care
  • High dependency.
  • Special care cots
  • A 4-bedded rooming-in suite
  • A fully developed community liaison service

We are a Baby-Friendly Unit and remain committed to high national performance standards. Seeking a Skilled Charge Nurse (SCN) with relevant experience to lead, develop and enhance our service, you will be instrumental in:

  • Driving quality improvement.
  • Supporting staff development.
  • Collaborating in shaping the future of neonatal care.

Duration, Location & Working Pattern

  • Princess Royal Maternity
  • Permanent, full-time (part-time options will be considered)
  • Rotational shifts, 7-day working, 11.5-hour shifts (day and night)

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership and ensure safe, effective patient care across the department
  • Lead, develop, and support the nursing and midwifery team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care
  • Maintain compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, infection prevention and quality standards
  • Coordinate patient journeys, ensuring discharge planning and multidisciplinary working
  • Manage workforce planning, resource allocation, recruitment and staff performance
  • Champion continuous quality improvement via:
    • Audit
    • Patient feedback
    • Evidence-based practice
  • Collaborate in service development, supporting local and national health priorities

Requirements

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with a current NMC registration relevant to neonatal practice
  • Neonatal-specific qualification and evidence of professional development to degree level or equivalent
  • Substantial post-registration experience in neonatal or relevant clinical settings
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to:
    • Motivate teams
    • Provide staff development solutions
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Clinical governance
    • Patient safety protocols
    • Infection prevention & control
    • Quality improvement methodologies
  • Exceptional communication, organisational and decision-making skills, with ability to work across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficient IT and information management skills
  • Commitment to delivering outstanding patient experiences
