APPLY Job Description
Senior Civil Engineer
London (Central)
Permanent | Full-time
I'm currently working with a growing, design-led civil and structural engineering consultancy based in Central London that is looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer as part of its continued expansion.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineer who enjoys hands-on technical delivery and is now looking to take on greater responsibility, with a clear pathway into team leadership as the civil engineering function grows.
The Role
Initially, this is a delivery-focused position, leading civil engineering design packages across a range of building-led and development projects. As the team expands, the role will naturally evolve into a more strategic and leadership-focused position, working closely with senior management to help shape the direction, standards, and growth of the civil engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of civil engineering design packages, including:
- Below-ground drainage and SuDS
- External works and levels design
- Highways and access works, including S278 where applicable
- Earthworks strategies and cut/fill analysis
- Coordinating civil designs with structural engineers, architects, and other consultants.
- Producing and overseeing pre-planning deliverables such as Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies.
- Supporting projects through detailed design and construction stages, including responding to technical queries and coordinating updates.
- Promoting best practice in the use of digital tools, including Civil 3D and hydraulic modelling software.
- Reviewing and checking work as part of the internal QA process.
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and technicians as the team grows.
- Assisting with fee proposals, client meetings, and business development activities where appropriate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
