Are you an experienced Civil Design Engineer ready to play a key role in delivering safe, reliable and technically robust infrastructure for critical electricity network assets?

UK Power Networks Services is looking for a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join our Heathrow-based team on a permanent basis, reporting to the Principal Civil Design Engineer. This is an opportunity to contribute to complex civil and structural design work in an airport environment, supporting projects from tender through to construction and commissioning. In return, you will receive a salary of £84,160, a 3% bonus.

In this role, you will:

  • Produce civil and structural designs for the tender, construction and commissioning of electricity network assets.
  • Ensure hazards are eliminated or reduced wherever possible.
  • Ensure designs comply with UK Power Networks Services standards, policies and procedures, as well as the latest British Standards, ESQCR, Building Regulations and fire safety requirements.
  • Contribute to design development from inception to commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with design assurance and audit processes.
  • Oversee and contribute to technical, commercial and contractual documentation for procurement.
  • Assess third-party construction works that may impact electricity network assets.

You will also:

  • Fulfil the role of Principal Designer for allocated schemes in line with CDM regulations.
  • Provide technical liaison with suppliers and clients to support successful project delivery.
  • Mentor Trainee, Graduate and other Engineers to help develop their technical knowledge and experience.

Working closely with specialist consultants, civil contractors, structural and electrical engineers, quantity surveyors and CAD technicians, you will:

  • Resolve civil engineering challenges.
  • Apply a strong understanding of airport engineering standards and construction policies.
  • Coordinate with external consulting engineering organisations.
  • Identify innovative cost-saving solutions while working independently and as part of a dedicated team of designers, estimators and planners.

This is a varied and influential role for someone with:

  • A civil engineering degree or equivalent experience.
  • A background in building works preferably within the utility sector.
  • Proven experience in substation, overhead line or cable design.
  • Strong AutoCAD knowledge.
  • Experience managing and communicating CAD work packages.
  • An understanding of the Planning Application system in England.
  • The capability to sign off designs.
