About the Role

Join AECOM’s dynamic Senior Civil Engineer team, contributing to cutting-edge nuclear projects that shape the future of energy. We are seeking a self-directed engineer with proven expertise in civil engineering, capable of leading both independently and within a collaborative environment across nuclear projects.

This is an evolving field with opportunity across international and domestic nuclear infrastructure developments. You’ll bring your earnest eye and set the mark for AECOM’s high-performing projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Procurement Leadership: Deliver centre-of-excellence nuclear civil engineering design and procurement services.
  • Client Stakeholder Management: Interact with clients to support bid proposals, acquisition, and deliver innovative multimillion-pound projects in alignment with AECOM’s vision.
  • Project Innovation: Implement robust processes, standards, and tools to streamline project delivery and promote consistent best practices.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor colleagues, fostering professional and technical growth within AECOM’s nuclear team.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Delivery: Collaborate with civil, mechanical, nuclear, electrical, plant and process engineers to realise safe, efficient, and sustainable nuclear designs.
  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure designs and deliverables meet industry regulations, security clearances, best practices, and client standards.

Responsibilities

You will be involved in the end-to-end design lifecycle of nuclear projects, which may include some or all of the following:

  • Design & Project Delivery: Prepare detailed technical civil designs tailored for nuclear projects.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Work across civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering teams.
  • Bid Proposal Support: Assist with the development and constitution of project bids, proposals, and quotations spanning a range of investment sizes.
  • Project Management Role: Contribute energy direction and mentoring to project management and delivery teams.
  • Industry Participation: Engage in active project-based and professional organisatory participation as a recognised nuclear engineering leader.

Requirements

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor Honours Degree (typically a BEng, BE, or MEng) in Civil Engineering
  • Department of Planning, Standards and Regulation (or comparable) certified status, or on the professional route towards becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE) is a essential requirement.
  • Completion of a Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE) or near-future attainment of Chartered Engineer accreditation.

Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated success planning large-scale complex civil design for multinational approaches similar to the nuclear industry.
  • Strong experience in design references, monitoring compliance to recognised codes, standards, and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in multi-million-pound consultation frameworks and practices.
  • Extensive practical knowledge of designs for assuring literature review and effective procuring of civil engineering services.
  • Able to apply and recommend a range of civil engineering standards and approaches necessary for compliance objectives aligned with engineering integrity.

Leadership & Mentoring

  • Modern mentorship experience, including supporting staff’ growth, accessible support and fostering new talent into the field.

Software & Digital Tools

  • Familiarity with common civil engineering software suites, including design, collaboration, and engineering calculation tools:
    • Civil 3D, ArchiCAD, MINI CAD or equivalent
    • SAP2000, ETABS, GSA or equivalent
    • Project Delays or similar Project Lifecycle management tools

Professional Characteristics

  • Ability to lead and/or oversee a team of civil engineering specialists, trainee civil designers, engineers, and technicians.
  • Capable work style suitable for fast-paced environments with complex, high-risk stakes.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Absolute integrity, with genuine ethical resilience.
  • Relevant leadership experience in energy development projects or hatch/building planning field.
  • Punctuality and reliability with high emotional intelligence demonstrated in technical negotiations.

  • UK Security Vetting Requirement: Offer is conditional on acceptance of checks and adherence to the UK security compliance policy to be a part of AECOM’s nuclear dataset.

Qualifications

We’re seeking details indicating:

  • Strong mastery of nuclear centric provisions:
    • Understanding of construction and building safety regulations and processes specific to AES accredited nuclear services.
    • Compliance with British Standards for Haste codes and construction systems on nuclear sites.
  • Sophisticated Design authorisation and contract law for regulated environments.
  • Experience correlating subcontract practices and build management reconciliation.
