The Opportunity

Amey Engineering teams improve the environment and create sustainable flooding solutions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients, providing consultancy design services for Local Authorities, Strategic and Local transport providers and organisations delivering National Infrastructure. We make our towns and cities better places to live by improving connectivity, flood resilience, sustainability and quality of life.

Amey have been confirmed as the lead engineering consultant working with the NI Department for Infrastructure (DFI) on their Water and Departmental Delivery contract for the next five years, as well as NI Transport Asset Management and Translink contracts. We are also working on a range of flood management projects for Regional Authorities in Wales, South-West and Midlands areas, National Highways and National Rail, and looking to expand further in these areas.

The role

With the increase in workload, we have a fantastic opportunities for Senior Flood Engineers to join the team. The successful candidates will undertake and oversee the production of Flood Management design, leading a dedicated flood management design engineering team. This role can be based from either our Belfast or Cardiff locations where you will work collaboratively within the Flooding and Water Management team, providing effective support and assistance to the senior engineers and team leaders on a variety of flood schemes.

Being an experienced Senior Flood Engineer at Amey Consulting, you’ll have the chance to focus on the parts of your role you most enjoy. Whether it’s further training to broaden your skills, working more closely with your clients to build relationships, or having the opportunity to develop leadership capabilities, our environment is one of collaboration and support where the direction of your career is led by you. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing flood designs following the client’s requirements and relevant design standards
  • Representing the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Preparing and checking the feasibility studies, appraisal and assessment reports
  • Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
  • Producing and checking flood design concepts, design details, drawings specifications and other technical documents
  • Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources
  • Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders
  • Supporting the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts
  • Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees
  • Undertaking site supervision duties of contractors as and when required

What you will bring to us:

  • A keen interest in flood engineering with demonstrable experience and expertise, probably gained in an Engineer/ Senior Engineer role or equivalent
  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject
  • Chartered status held with an appropriate professional body and post graduate experience in the feasibility, design, supervision and overall management of flood risk management based civil engineering projects
  • An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
  • Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
  • Knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
  • Strong analytical, written, communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
