Job Title: Senior Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer (EV Charging) / Civil Infrastructure Design Lead (EV Charging)

Location: Tyseley, Birmingham
Job Type: Permanent
Department: Engineering / EV Infrastructure
Reports To: Head of Engineering

About Us:

Voltempo is developing rapid DC Hypercharging solutions for a range of commercial vehicle sectors, initially here in the UK, but progressively internationally as the transport sector electrifies. The company holds several international patents, it is engaged in the end-to-end design, supply, site commissioning and servicing of charging solutions, targeting commercial vehicles. The business is currently scaling and is well supported by both its international shareholders and its role under the UK Government eFreight2030 programme, where it is leading a consortium of UK logistics fleet operators to deploy the UK’s first eHGV charging network.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of the civil and site infrastructure required for high-power Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installations. This includes site layouts, cable ducting networks, trenching strategies, foundations, and the supporting infrastructure required for the installation of our HyperCharger solutions and third-party EVSE.

Working at the intersection of Engineering, Infrastructure Delivery, PMO, and Commercial teams, this role will play a pivotal part in creating and supporting delivery of feasible, compliant, and cost-effective infrastructure designs that minimise delivery risk and optimise programme outcomes from feasibility through to construction.

The role combines technical leadership with hands-on design responsibility. The successful candidate will manage external design partners when internal capacity is exceeded and collaborate closely with ICPs, contractors, DNOs, IDNOs and equipment suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.

Civil Infrastructure Design:

  • Lead the design of civil and site infrastructure for high-power EV charging installations, producing cost-optimised and compliant designs from feasibility through to construction.
  • Capture and manage customer requirements in collaboration with the infrastructure delivery team, ensuring these are effectively incorporated into the design solution.
  • Create and maintain design packs and supporting documentation for feasibility assessments, tender submissions and construction including:
    • Site layouts, dimensions and levels
    • Charger and equipment foundations
    • Vehicle swept path analysis
    • Ducting and trenching layouts, routing and cross-sections
    • Associated civil infrastructure details and specifications
  • Ensure feasibility through the interpretation of mapping, existing site CAD & drawings, feasibility studies and survey information, including utility, GPR, topographical and lighting.
  • Apply industry best practice and relevant standards to ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and commercially viable.
  • Lead design reviews and value engineering activities to optimise constructability, programme and cost.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
