Primary Objective: To lead the inspection, assessment, design, and remediation of bridge and infrastructure assets including report writing & client handover. To provide project management & technical leadership across projects and act as a key interface between clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
Work Environment: A hybrid role combining office-based engineering, site inspections, client meetings, and project delivery activities.
Location: Project-based work across the UK, with a significant focus on the Severn Bridges and major infrastructure projects.
Working Hours: 48 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural inspections, assessments, and investigations of bridge and infrastructure assets including client reporting.
- Plan and deliver Post-Tensioning Special Inspections (PTSI).
- Review inspection findings and determine defect severity, causes, and remediation requirements.
- Provide technical leadership to inspection teams and junior engineers.
- Undertake structural assessments in accordance with DMRB, Eurocodes, and client requirements.
- Develop repair, strengthening, and remediation solutions including heavy lifting & jacking.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously including programme, budget, and resource allocation.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and project procedures.
- Act as a primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and asset owners.
- Mentor graduate and junior engineers and support chartership development.

Requirements & Qualifications Education:
- BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) preferred or actively working towards chartership.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in bridge, civil, or structural engineering.
- Experience undertaking structural inspections and assessments.
- Experience producing technical reports and engineering calculations.
- Experience working on UK infrastructure projects.

Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), Eurocodes, and relevant British Standards.
- Competent in structural analysis software.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Strong technical report writing skills.
Certification:
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- CSCS Card.
- BICS qualification desirable.
Personal Attributes:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and project management capability.
- Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams.
Typical Compensation Salary: £50,000 – £70,000+ per annum depending upon experience, chartered status, and responsibilities.
